My First Day at Engineering College

Starting engineering college is an exciting milestone filled with anticipation, nerves, and countless new experiences. On my very first day, everything—from the walk to campus to finding my classroom—felt like a fresh chapter unfolding. Navigating the sprawling college grounds on foot was a test of both endurance and orientation. Searching the notice board for my classroom brought fleeting moments of confusion until, finally, with a dose of luck and boldness, I stepped confidently into the right section.

Walking into the classroom was an eye-opening moment. Initially, the sight of so many unfamiliar faces sparked a flutter of nervousness. But that quickly shifted when Rajeev Sir, our literature professor, entered and began the session with a calm, five-minute mindfulness exercise. As he guided us through a gentle, yoga-like meditation—encouraging us by saying, “We are the angels, we are the best”—a collective sense of tranquility spread through the room. It was an uplifting way to start the academic journey.

The day progressed with various classes, starting with literature and moving on to mathematics, taught in a manner both engaging and clear. At 1:20 p.m., tiffin time brought its own little adventure. Since new students weren’t allowed outside the building for the first three months, we bought snacks like hot dogs and paneer rolls from the canteen inside. Sharing my lunch with Shahbuddin, a new friend I met, sparked camaraderie and eased the initial awkwardness. Soon, playful games of cricket and laughter filled the classroom, breaking the ice further.

After math and physics classes, the day wrapped up with a bus ride back to my PG accommodation. The college had arranged bus services for the first few months, which came at an additional charge along with uniform fabric fees—details to remember as part of college life’s early challenges.

My first day at engineering college was a blend of uncertainty and excitement, new faces and routines, moments of quiet reflection and lively interaction. It marked the beginning of a transformative journey, teaching me that every challenge holds the promise of growth and every stranger may soon become a friend.
