First Sem Diaries

I started my first semester with a lot of expectations. I thought college would be full of learning, exciting projects, and opportunities to grow. But as the semester passed, reality hit hard. Expectations and reality were completely different.

One of the best memories was participating in a hackathon with my amazing teammates—Manav Pokhrel, Sinigdha Bhomik, Shahbaz Ansari, Pratush Chell, Manjima Ghosh, and Faiz Imam. We finished as the 2nd Runner-up, and that achievement made all the hard work worth it.

College also gave me some unforgettable moments. One of my professors once told me, "Faiz, be disciplined. When you walk, you appear like a criminal." I still laugh whenever I remember that. On the other hand, my very first Physics lab didn't go well—I got scolded by the teacher. Welcome to college, I guess.

Some classmates became good friends, while others remained just batchmates. Even then, we had countless fun moments together that made the semester memorable.

I also proposed starting a Freelancing Club, but the teachers didn't allow first-year students to take that initiative. Instead, I joined the Photography Club as a Web Developer to help maintain its codebase.

The biggest disappointment, however, was academics. Honestly, sach bolun toh, I didn't learn much related to technology. I expected practical learning, mentorship, and real-world exposure, but I often felt frustrated with the teaching methods and how the college functioned.

And yes, one more thing—I stayed completely away from girls throughout the semester.

Looking back, my first semester wasn't what I had imagined. It started with dreams but ended with a reality check. Still, every experience—good or bad—taught me something. Maybe this wasn't the semester I wanted, but it was definitely the semester I needed.

Another unforgettable part of my first semester was meeting Vishal Singh. A funny guy with typical Bihari vibes, always ready with jokes and random conversations. His signature move? Completely lying down across the classroom bench and sleeping as if it were his own bed. It never failed to make everyone laugh. Behind all the humor, though, he's a genuinely good person, and I'm glad I got to know him.

Sometimes, reality disappoints you before it shapes you. Here's hoping the next semester is better.
